Mentor on The Move Kick-off Meeting

The International Olympic Truce Centre (IOTC) joined partners from six European countries for the official kick-off meeting of the “Mentor on the Move: Sports-Based Mentoring Across Borders” project, an ambitious initiative funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Sport programme.

The inaugural gathering, hosted by project coordinator Monaliiku – Multicultural Women’s Well-Being & Sports at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on 20–21 January 2025, set the strategic direction for a venture that aims to make sport and physical activity more accessible, welcoming and empowering for migrant women and other vulnerable groups across Europe.

Over two intensive days, representatives from the seven partner organisations reviewed the project’s vision; agreed on research tools; finalised a detailed work plan and established governance structures, communication channels and quality-assurance procedures to ensure the project’s timely and effective delivery.

Throughout the project, results, learning materials and policy recommendations will be shared openly on the project website and at stakeholder events, contributing to a more inclusive European sports landscape.

The “Mentor on The Move” project is aimed at locally making physical exercise and sports more accessible and welcoming to migrant women, and other vulnerable groups through capacity building for organisations and professionals working in the field of sports, migration, or inclusion work.

The project will create and test a standardized framework programme for sport-based mentoring, focusing on the promotion of personal development and self-agency of migrant women and other people who are at a risk of exclusion in the society due to poor socio-economic factors such as unemployment, low education, deteriorating health, lack of social networks or lack of language skills.

The International Olympic Truce Centre is proud to be part of this multi-stakeholder project, funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, in partnership with:
